The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book)Mo Willems

From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2-A sweet and pitch-perfect swan song to a wildly popular series. Reflecting on her good fortune and many blessings, Piggie decides to thank everyone who is important to her. Gerald thinks this is a bad idea, in that she runs the very big risk of forgetting someone. Piggie will not be dissuaded and embarks on her "Thank-o-rama!" She gives a shout-out to the Squirrels, Snake, the Pigeon, and other characters from the series, including Mouse, Birdies, Rhino, Hippo, Hippo's Big Sister, Barky Dog, Pelican, Bears, and Worms. Piggie turns into a thanking machine. Whale, Ice Cream Penguin, Doctor Cat, and Brian Rat all make appearances. Last, but hardly least, she remembers to acknowledge her partner in crime, Gerald, but there's still one important group that the effusive Piggie neglects to mention-their readers! Willems's brilliant, minimalist cartoon illustrations are as expressive and charming as ever. VERDICT The 25th installment in the winning series is a must-have for every collection and will lead kids to go back and revisit the earlier titles again and again. Thanks, Mo Willems, you've helped a whole generation learn to be proficient readers with Gerald and Piggie. Hugs all around!-Luann Toth, School Library Journalα(c) Copyright 2011. The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems

The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems is My girls have been fans of the Elephant & Piggie series for about five years. We have almost all of the books in the series; they have helped all three of them learn to read. We were very sad when we heard that The Thank You Book would be the last Elephant & Piggie book, and we were looking forward to one last funny story with Piggie and Gerald.As The Thank You Book begins, Piggie declares that she is going to thank everyone who has helped her. Gerald worries that she is going to forget someone, but Piggie insists that she will not.And then Piggie proceeded to thank every secondary character in the entire series, and I tried not to cry. They are all there, and fans of the series (like my girls) will enjoy seeing familiar friends. Gerald continues to worry that Piggie will forget someone- who could she possibly be forgetting that thank?The illustrations are relatively simple. Gerald and Piggie appear against a plain white background, and this places an emphasis on their facial expressions and body language. Gerald and Piggie communicate with each other via voice bubbles; the book consists of a conversation between the two friends and their acquaintances.I would recommend The Thank You Book to fans of the Elephant & Piggie series. My girls laughed as they recognized all of Elephant and Piggie’s friends. If you aren’t familiar with the series, this probably is not the best book to start with because you won’t understand why Piggie is thanking all of these other animals. If that is the case, I would suggest starting with any of the other books- they are all funny books ideal for beginning readers.My girls and I are not sure what Mo Willems has planned next, but we are looking forward to it.

The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems is Mo I love you...Mo I hate you...Well, not really hate, but to think that never again will I rip open another box to see my two favorite characters smiling out at me. To hold up a new book in front of a class and hear cheers and applause. These two friends are simply beautiful. As an elementary school librarian I delight in introducing these two characters to my early readers. At our Spanish immersion school the stories are perfect for either our English or Spanish speakers with simple, but sweet story lines and illustrations that transcend language.For the Piggie and Elephant fanatic this book is a perfect goodbye. Favorite characters return, including that slippery Pigeon. Piggie and Elephant reaffirm the embodiment of friendship and love. More importantly, Mo addresses the reader, young and old, and hails the symbiotic relationship between reader and character.Thank you Mo. Thank you.---Anna

The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems is They say, “All good things must come to an end.”I harrumph and ask, “Why?”Through the years, I've collected each new book as they are published. Now I've finally added the last and final book to this loving series, and it feels...overwhelming. I'm sadden that it's come to an end. Though, my sons and I will be re-reading this for years to come. ♥♥♥{For even more reviews, visit reviews.flylef.com}

The Thank You Book (An Elephant and Piggie Book) by Mo Willems is I cannot say enough nice things about this book. I have a 2nd grade student in one of my reading intervention groups that just adores the "Elephant and Piggie" series. The whole series was a bit too hard for her, but she loved the series so much that she kept reading them over and over by herself, with friends or with her mom until she was able to read the whole book all by herself. The series by Mo Willems pushed my student to a whole new level. I bought this book especially for her and her eyes immediately lit up. She read and reread it any chance she could get throughout the school day.
